Shrek the Third follows the story of Shrek and Fiona, who are living a happy life in their swamp. However, their peaceful existence is disrupted when the King of Far Far Away dies suddenly, leaving them as the rightful heirs to the throne.
Shrek, who is not interested in becoming king, decides to embark on a journey to find the next in line for the throne, a young man named Arthur. Along the way, Shrek is joined by his trusted companions Donkey and Puss in Boots.
Meanwhile, Prince Charming, who was previously denied the chance to rule Far Far Away, decides to gather all fairy tale villains in an attempt to take over the kingdom. This leads to a battle between Shrek and his friends, and the villains, with the fate of Far Far Away hanging in the balance.
Throughout the movie, Shrek struggles with the idea of being a king and the responsibilities that come with the title. At the same time, Fiona is dealing with her own crisis, as she realizes she is pregnant and is unsure of how to handle the news.
In the end, Shrek and his friends are able to defeat the villains and Arthur becomes the new king of Far Far Away. Shrek and Fiona return to their swamp, happy to live their lives in peace and quiet, with the addition of their new family member on the way.
