When Shrek and Fiona arrive at Far, Far Away, they are greeted by her parents, King Harold and Queen Lillian. However, the King is not pleased with Fiona's choice of husband and hires the swashbuckling Puss in Boots to assassinate Shrek.
Meanwhile, the Fairy Godmother, who is Charming's mother, is outraged that her son did not marry Fiona and plots to get rid of Shrek so that Charming can marry Fiona instead.
As a result of the tension between the King and Shrek, Fiona begins to doubt her love for Shrek and turns to the Fairy Godmother for advice. The Fairy Godmother uses a love potion to make Fiona fall in love with Charming and tries to separate her from Shrek.
In the end, Shrek and his friends manage to thwart the Fairy Godmother's plans and reconcile with the King. Fiona chooses to stay with Shrek, and they live happily ever after.
