Shrek is a 2001 computer-animated fantasy comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animation. The film was directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson and features the voices of Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona.
The film is based on William Steig's 1990 picture book of the same name and follows the story of an ogre named Shrek who lives alone in a swamp until his peaceful life is disrupted when a group of fairy tale creatures, including a talking donkey, are banished to his swamp by the evil Lord Farquaad.
To get his swamp back, Shrek makes a deal with Farquaad to rescue Princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. Shrek is accompanied by Donkey on his quest, and they face various challenges and obstacles along the way.
After rescuing the princess, Shrek and Fiona begin to fall in love but must overcome their differences, including the fact that Fiona has a secret that could change everything. In the end, Shrek and Fiona get married, and Donkey meets his true love, a dragon.
The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $480 million worldwide and winning the first-ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. It spawned three sequels, a spin-off film, and a stage musical adaptation.
