Showtime is a hilarious mockery of the classic buddy cop genre. It stars Robert De Niro as detective Mitch Preston, a grizzled veteran cop who has seen it all and is less than enthused about being followed around by a camera crew for a new reality-based cop show. His partner is patrol officer Trey Sellars, played by Eddie Murphy, who is a bumbling rookie with dreams of being an actor.

The movie follows the duo as they are forced to put aside their differences and work together to capture a dangerous criminal who is threatening to blow up a major sports arena. Along the way, they find themselves in the middle of various hijinks and hilarious situations, often caused by Trey's constant craving for the spotlight and Mitch's general disdain for the whole reality TV concept.

As they pursue the criminal, Trey and Mitch find themselves becoming unlikely friends, with Trey even convincing his newfound partner to take an acting class with him. The film culminates in an explosive climax, with both cops showing off their respective skills as they work together to take down the bad guy.

Filled with biting wit and slapstick humor, Showtime is a brilliant send-up of the buddy cop genre that is sure to leave audiences laughing long after the credits roll.
