Short Term 12 is a 2013 drama film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. The film focuses on the life of Grace (Brie Larson), a young supervisor at a foster care facility for troubled teenagers. Grace, along with her boyfriend and colleague Mason (John Gallagher Jr.), works to help at-risk teens navigate life's challenges while trying to overcome their own personal demons.
The film follows Grace as she struggles to come to terms with her past trauma and the emotional toll it has taken on her. When a new charge, Jayden (Kaitlyn Dever), arrives at the facility, Grace finds herself drawn to the troubled girl as she finds solace in their shared pain.
As Grace works to gain Jayden's trust, she is forced to confront her own traumatic past, including an abusive childhood and a previous pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage. As Grace begins to unravel emotionally, her normally stoic exterior begins to crumble, and she is forced to confront her own vulnerabilities.
