Sholay is a 1975 Indian action-adventure film directed by Ramesh Sippy and produced by his father G. P. Sippy. It stars Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan in pivotal roles. The film is considered to be one of the greatest films in Indian cinema history and is also regarded as a masterpiece of Indian cinema.

The plot revolves around a retired police officer named Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev Kumar) who hires two criminals, Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) and Veeru (Dharmendra), to capture and bring to justice a bandit named Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan) who had killed his entire family. Jai and Veeru accept the task and arrive at Ramgarh, a small village near the border, where they meet Thakur and the villagers who are terrorized by Gabbar Singh and his army of dacoits. Jai and Veeru soon become friends with the villagers and begin their mission to capture Gabbar Singh.

As the story progresses, Jai and Veeru face several challenges and obstacles in their mission but eventually succeed in capturing Gabbar Singh. However, their victory comes at a great cost as Jai sacrifices his life in the process.

The film's iconic dialogues and songs have become a part of Indian pop culture and have been referenced in several films and TV shows. Sholay was released on 15 August 1975 and was an instant success, becoming the highest-grossing film of that year.
