Viola Johnson is a talented soccer player who dreams of competing at the highest level, but her school's women's team is cut due to lack of interest. When she learns that her twin brother Sebastian is skipping school to pursue his music career, Viola decides to take his place at his new school, the prestigious Illyria Prep School, and join the men's soccer team. However, she soon realizes she has to masquerade as a boy to fit in.
At Illyria, Viola meets Duke Orsino, the captain of the soccer team, and immediately falls for him. But Duke is in love with Olivia, a beautiful and popular girl at school who seems uninterested in him. In an attempt to get Duke's attention, Viola helps him win Olivia's heart by pretending to be Sebastian and giving him advice on how to approach her.
Meanwhile, Viola's best friend from her old school, Paul, starts to suspect that she is not who she says she is, and her twin brother unexpectedly returns from London, complicating matters even further.
As Viola struggles to keep up her charade and navigate her feelings for Duke, things come to a head on the soccer field, where she must reveal her true identity to the entire school. In the end, Viola finds love and acceptance for who she truly is, both on and off the field.
