Sherlock Holmes and the Great Escape is a 2019 Chinese animated film directed by Jinhui Wang and produced by Guangdong Alpha Animation and Culture. The film is inspired by the classic Arthur Conan Doyle detective stories and reimagines the character as a martial arts expert.
The story begins with Mack, a legendary outlaw who steals from the rich to give to the poor. He is beloved by the people, who see him as a Robin Hood figure. However, he is a difficult case for the Yard, and has eluded capture for years. Detective Gordon Gorilla Riller and Carlson Fox, two of the Yard's top detectives, are determined to catch him.
With the help of Sherlock Holmes, they finally manage to catch Mack at his daughter Katie's birthday party. However, Sherlock's decision to arrest Mack causes him to be reviled by the people, who see him as a traitor to their hero.
Four years later, Mack is in prison, fighting with the notorious Scarface. He manages to climb over the wall and escape, but it is not long before Sherlock is hot on his trail. As they travel across the countryside, Mack reveals his heart-breaking reason for escaping: he wants to see his daughter one last time before he surrenders to the police.
However, their reunion is cut short when Scarface appears and kidnaps Katie. With the help of Gordon Gorilla Riller and Carlson Fox, Sherlock and Watson must race against time to rescue Katie and take down Scarface once and for all.
The film features stunning animation and thrilling action sequences, as well as a heartwarming story about the bond between a father and daughter. It was a critical and commercial success in China, and has been praised for its inventive reimagining of the classic detective character.
