In the movie, Sherlock Holmes (played by Robert Downey Jr.) is trying to unravel the mysterious activities of Professor James Moriarty (played by Jared Harris), a criminal mastermind who uses his vast intelligence and resources to carry out his nefarious plans. Holmes becomes convinced that Moriarty is responsible for a series of seemingly unrelated crimes and begins to follow his every move, using his incredible deductive skills to piece together the evidence.
As the two men engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, they both employ their unique talents to outwit each other at every turn. Meanwhile, Holmes’ trusty sidekick Dr. John Watson (played by Jude Law) is caught up in a romantic relationship and is hesitant to follow Holmes on his dangerous pursuit of Moriarty.
As the stakes get higher and the danger increases, Holmes and Moriarty engage in a climactic battle of wits that will determine the fate of the world. Along the way, they encounter a number of colorful supporting characters, including the gypsy fortune teller Simza (played by Noomi Rapace) and the bumbling French Inspector Lestrade (played by Eddie Marsan).
