She-Devil

Comedy  United States of America

She-Devil is a 1989 black comedy directed by Susan Seidelman and starring Meryl Streep and Roseanne Barr. The story follows Ruth, a downtrodden suburban housewife who is constantly taken for granted and abused by her husband, Bob. When Bob begins an affair with a wealthy romance novelist named Mary Fisher, Ruth vows to get even.

Using her cunning and resourcefulness, Ruth sets out to destroy Bob's life and bring him down to her level. She starts by sabotaging Bob's career and reputation, and then moves on to more direct forms of revenge, such as destroying his prized possessions and seducing his friends.

As Ruth's tactics become more extreme, Bob realizes that he has pushed her too far and begins to fear for his life. Meanwhile, Mary Fisher becomes a pawn in Ruth's game as she seeks to use the novelist's wealth and influence to further her own revenge.

However, Ruth's plan ultimately backfires when she realizes that her desire for revenge has made her just as cruel and ruthless as Bob. In the end, she learns a valuable lesson about the perils of obsession and the importance of forgiveness.
