Shallow Grave is a 1994 British thriller film directed by Danny Boyle and written by John Hodge. The movie follows three friends, David (Christopher Eccleston), Alex (Ewan McGregor), and Juliet (Kerry Fox), who are looking for a new flatmate to share their spacious Edinburgh apartment. They interview several candidates but decide to choose the mysterious Hugo (Keith Allen), who moves in immediately.
One morning, the three friends discover that Hugo has died in his bedroom, possibly from a drug overdose. Upon discovering a suitcase filled with cash under his bed, they decide to hide the body and keep the money for themselves. But their plan quickly unravels as they start to turn on each other and are pursued by a dangerous criminal (Peter Mullan) who is looking for the missing money.
As the tension between the friends grows, they are forced to confront their darkest fears and deepest desires, revealing their true natures in a series of shocking twists and turns. With its stylish visuals and dark humor, Shallow Grave established Boyle as a rising star in the world of cinema and remains a cult classic to this day.
