In the film, Nick and Nora Charles (played by William Powell and Myrna Loy) attend a horse race where a jockey named Whitey is murdered. Despite their attempts to enjoy the race and avoid getting involved in the investigation, Nick and Nora are pulled into the case by their friend Lt. Abrams (played by Sam Levene).
As they begin to dig deeper, they encounter a number of people who had motive to kill Whitey, including his horse's owner, a gambler, and Whitey's own sister. As the Charleses follow leads and question suspects, they also find themselves in some dangerous situations, including a fight with a group of gangsters.
Throughout the film, there are also several humorous moments as Nick and Nora banter with each other and navigate their way through the investigation. In addition, their young son Nick Jr. (played by Richard Halliday) is along for the ride, adding an element of family dynamics to the story.
Ultimately, the Charleses are able to solve the case and bring Whitey's killer to justice, all while maintaining their social status and good humor.
