The movie follows the journey of Alan, a man who discovers that he is one of six siblings who were all separated at birth. As he prepares to become a father for the first time, he feels a strong desire to connect with his biological family and sets out to find them.
His search takes him across the country, where he discovers that his siblings are all very different from each other. There's Russell, a prison inmate who has become a born-again Christian, and Dawn, a successful lawyer whose life is turned upside down by Alan's sudden appearance.
As he gets to know each of his siblings, Alan also discovers secrets from his past that he never could have imagined. With the help of his new-found family, he begins to understand himself better than he ever has before.
