Count Zaroff was famous for luring shipwrecked sailors to his island and then hunting them down like animals.

Boris is tormented by his family's legacy and suffers from intense hallucinations. He often sees himself as his father, hunting and torturing young women in his fantasies. His mental health begins to deteriorate rapidly, and his butler, Karl, tries to help him overcome his twisted desires.

Karl is determined to break Boris's connection to his family's dark past and encourage him to live a more normal life. To that end, he attempts to indoctrinate Boris into the evils of his family's line and exposes him to the torture dungeon in their castle.

However, Boris is periodically tempted away from his destiny by the ghost of the deceased Countess Zaroff. She was the previous owner of the castle and had a deep and profound love for Boris. Her ghostly presence is a constant reminder to him about the possibility of redemption.

As Boris begins to fall deeper into his delusions, he finds himself drawn towards seven different women who seem to embody the various qualities he admires in the ideal female. He becomes obsessed with these women and begins to lose all touch with reality.
