After kidnapping the murderer, Hamel brings him to a secluded cabin in the woods where he begins his plan to make the criminal suffer for his crime. He starts by tying him up and forcing him to make a public confession of his actions, which he records and sends to the media. Hamel then begins a grueling torture regimen that includes starvation, sleep deprivation, physical abuse, and psychological torment.
As the days pass, the lines between justice and revenge blur as Hamel becomes consumed with hatred for the murderer. He refuses to let him die quickly, wanting him to suffer as his daughter did. Meanwhile, the police are desperately searching for both Hamel and the murderer, who has been reported missing. Sylvie and the rest of the family are left in the dark about Bruno's whereabouts and what he is doing.
As the seventh day approaches, Hamel realizes that he is becoming more like the monster he sought to punish. He begins to have doubts about his plan and whether it will bring him the closure he seeks. In the end, Hamel must make a difficult decision about how to end the cycle of violence and whether to sacrifice himself for the sake of his family and his own sanity. The movie ends with an emotional twist that leaves the audience questioning the morality of vigilante justice.
