In Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Adam Pontipee, a rugged backwoodsman, goes into town to find a wife. He meets and marries Milly, a resourceful and independent woman who can work hard and cook well. Adam takes Milly back to his remote Oregon farm, where he lives with his six younger brothers.
Milly quickly realizes that Adam's brothers are all uncivilized, unkempt, and in dire need of wives to care for them. She takes it upon herself to teach them manners, hygiene, and proper behavior, hoping to make them more appealing to the eligible women in town.
When six eligible women show up at the farm, the brothers attempt to court them, but their uncivilized ways and clear lack of experience with women lead to disaster. Frustrated and disappointed, the brothers hatch a plan to kidnap the women and bring them back to the farm.
Although the women are initially outraged, they eventually come to see the potential in the brothers and the life they could have on the farm. The plot thickens as rival suitors, the town sheriff, and an impending blizzard all add to the drama.
In the end, the six brothers each end up with a bride, and Adam and Milly have reconciled and started their own family. The movie features memorable musical numbers, including "Bless Your Beautiful Hide" and "Lonesome Polecat," and has become a beloved classic of American cinema.
