Separation is a supernatural horror film that tells the story of eight-year-old Jenny (Violet McGraw), whose life is turned upside down after the sudden death of her mother Maggie (Mamie Gummer). Jenny's father Jeff (Rupert Friend) is a struggling artist who is left to raise his daughter alone, while dealing with his own personal demons.
As Jeff tries to keep his art career afloat and adjust to his new role as a single parent, Jenny starts to experience strange and disturbing things in the house they once shared with her mother. She begins to see her mother's ghost and becomes convinced that her mother is still with her, watching over her.
