The film, released in 1980, stars Chevy Chase as Nick Gardenia and Goldie Hawn as Glenda. After being kidnapped and forced to rob a bank, Nick becomes a fugitive and seeks refuge with Glenda, his ex-girlfriend. But her current husband, Ira (played by Charles Grodin), is a prosecutor who is determined to put Nick behind bars.
As Nick tries to clear his name, he becomes entangled in a series of comedic mishaps, including accidentally breaking into Glenda's friend's house and attempting to hide out in a closet during a dinner party. Meanwhile, Glenda is torn between her loyalty to Nick and her commitments to her husband and job.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Robert Guillaume as a memorable chauffeur, and a soundtrack filled with classic songs from the 60s and 70s. Ultimately, Nick and Glenda must work together to clear his name and bring the real robbers to justice.
