See for Me

Thriller  Canada

See for Me is a thrilling crime drama directed by Randall Okita and released in 2021. The movie follows blind former skier Sophie (played by Skyler Davenport) as she cat-sits in a secluded mansion. Sophie is a tech-savvy woman who uses various smartphone apps to navigate her daily life. She is proficient with an app called "See For Me," which connects her with live video feeds from sighted volunteers who assist her in identifying objects, reading labels, and other visual tasks.

One evening, while Sophie is cat-sitting, three thieves invade the mansion with the intention of finding a hidden safe filled with valuable items. Sophie is unaware of their arrival until she receives a message from her cat alerting her to the intruders. Trapped in the mansion with no sight, Sophie has no way of defending herself. She calls upon the See For Me app for help, and Kelly (played by Jessica Parker Kennedy), an army veteran who volunteers as a sighted assistant, responds.

Kelly and Sophie team up to try to outsmart the thieves and escape from the mansion safely. The film takes the viewer on a tense journey as they follow their efforts and the twists and turns they face as they try to survive. As the night progresses, Kelly and Sophie both reveal vulnerabilities that they work together to overcome, culminating in a showdown that leaves the fate of the women and the trapped cat hanging in the balance.

The movie is an entertaining and suspenseful thriller with decent pacing and an engrossing storyline. The nuanced performances by Davenport and Kennedy bring depth and authenticity to the characters, and the unique premise of the See For Me app adds an interesting dimension to the plot. Overall, See for Me is an engaging and exciting watch that explores themes of disability, trust, and survival.
