Secretariat

Drama  United States of America

Secretariat is a 2010 American sports drama film directed by Randall Wallace and starring Diane Lane, John Malkovich, and Margo Martindale. The movie is based on the life of Penny Chenery Tweedy, who owned the racehorse Secretariat, the winner of the Triple Crown in 1973.

After her father's death, Penny Chenery moves to Virginia to oversee her family's horse farm. Despite her husband's objections, she decides to keep the farm afloat by breeding horses. She hires veteran trainer Lucien Laurin, who clearly disapproves of her lack of experience with horses.

Penny soon discovers a promising colt, which she later names Secretariat. Despite initially being considered a "loser," Secretariat gains popularity after several impressive victories. However, as the Triple Crown series approaches, Penny must convince her skeptical colleagues and the media that Secretariat is capable of winning.

Secretariat's final race, the Belmont Stakes, is considered one of the greatest races in equine history. The movie depicts the thrilling 31-length victory of Secretariat, who became the first horse in 25 years to win the Triple Crown.

The movie also touches upon themes of sexism and gender inequalities in the horse-racing industry, as well as the importance of perseverance and determination in achieving success.
