In the film Secret Ceremony, Leonora (played by Elizabeth Taylor) is a fragile and lonely woman living in London, who makes a living by working as a prostitute. One day, she meets a mysterious young girl named Cenci (played by Mia Farrow) who claims to be her long-lost daughter. Leonora, who was forced to give up her daughter for adoption years ago, is overjoyed at the possibility of being reunited with Cenci.
As Leonora spends more time with Cenci, she begins to notice that the girl's behavior is strange and unsettling. Cenci dresses up in her mother's old clothes and acts out elaborate fantasies, insisting that they are a family and that Leonora's rich brother (played by Robert Mitchum) is her father.
