In Scream 3, the murdering spree starts with the death of Cotton Weary, a survivor from the previous Scream movies who had become a successful talk-show host. The killer, using the moniker "Ghostface," later targets the original Woodsboro survivors Sidney Prescott, Dewey Riley, and Gale Weathers, as well as cast and crew members of "Stab 3" - a movie within the movie. Sidney, who has secluded herself in a remote location for her own safety, is forced to return to Hollywood and face her past to put an end to the killings. Along the way, she reunites with Dewey and Gale, who are now dating, and they work together to unravel the killer's motive and identity. The film also includes several red herrings and twists that keep the audience guessing until the very end. In the climactic finale, Sidney confronts the killer at the "Stab 3" set, revealing a shocking connection between the murderer and her own family history.
