In Scream, the killer known as Ghostface targets Sidney Prescott, a high school student whose mother was murdered a year prior. As the body count rises, Sidney and her friends become the targets of the killer's twisted game, which involves using horror movie tropes to terrorize his victims.
As the town struggles to cope with the new wave of violence, suspicion falls on several characters, including Sidney's boyfriend Billy, her best friend Tatum's brother Stu, and the high school principal. Meanwhile, reporter Gale Weathers, who covered the original murders, returns to Woodsboro to try to uncover the truth behind the killings.
As the killer's identity is revealed and the final showdown ensues, Sidney must confront her own traumatic past and face the possibility that someone close to her may be the murderer. Scream revitalized the horror genre in the 1990s with its self-aware humor, inventive kills, and meta-commentary on horror movies.
