Saw VI begins with an insurance corporation executive named William Easton being put into a new Jigsaw game. He must complete a series of tests related to the insurance decisions he made that caused the deaths of various clients. Meanwhile, Detective Hoffman continues to manipulate the investigation into Jigsaw's and his own involvement by framing Corbett Denlon, the young daughter of deceased detective Kerry, as Jigsaw's apprentice.

As the FBI gets closer to uncovering Hoffman's involvement, he sets up a complex game involving a bunch of people who he believes have taken undeserved benefits in life. The game is set up to punish six people and to reward William, who is forced to watch as the game unfolds. He soon discovers Hoffman's involvement and makes an agreement to help him with his investigation.

In the end, William is unable to complete the final test of the game, and he dies as a result. Detective Hoffman is revealed as the last surviving apprentice of Jigsaw, and he sets up a game for Jill Tuck, Jigsaw's ex-wife, and the only person who knows his true identity, to test her loyalty to him.

Saw VI explores the ongoing themes of morality, personal responsibility, and judgment, as well as Jigsaw's desire to teach people the value of life through his games.
