Major Adam and Alex are initially excited about the arrival of Captain Benson, as they have been alone on the station for three years. However, they quickly realize that there is something off about him and become increasingly uncomfortable around him. Benson becomes fixated on Alex and begins making inappropriate advances towards her, which she rebuffs.
As Benson works on programming Hector, he begins to see the robot as a way to get rid of Major Adam and have Alex all to himself. He transfers his own violent tendencies to the robot, causing it to become increasingly dangerous and unpredictable.
