Hanpeita Takeichi is a skilled swordsman and samurai who lived during the Bakumatsu era in Japan. One day, while in the middle of a sword duel, he is transported through time to present-day Tokyo. Confused and disoriented, he makes his way to a cram school run by a kind old man named Yoshimura.
Yoshimura takes pity on the lost samurai and offers him a job as a history and martial arts teacher at the school. Initially resistant to the modern ways of teaching and learning, Hanpeita gradually adapts to his new surroundings and becomes a beloved teacher to his students.
As he struggles to find a way back to his own time, Hanpeita begins to realize that his skills as a samurai could be used to make a positive impact on the lives of those around him in the present. However, his willingness to get involved in the affairs of others eventually leads to conflict and danger.
