Drama,History,Thriller  United Kingdom,United States of America

Salvador is a 1986 war drama film directed by Oliver Stone and starring James Woods, James Belushi, and Michael Murphy. The story centers around Richard Boyle, a hard-drinking, drug-addicted journalist who is struggling to keep his career and personal life afloat. In an effort to revive his career, Boyle travels to El Salvador during the country's military dictatorship in the 1980s.

Once in El Salvador, Boyle quickly becomes embroiled in the country's political turmoil and begins to uncover the brutal realities of life under military rule. He witnesses the government's violent crackdown on protests and dissidents, the abduction and torture of innocent civilians, and the exploitation of the country's resources by corrupt politicians and foreign corporations.

Boyle also meets Dr. Maria, a local activist fighting for human rights and social justice, and they begin a tumultuous relationship that reflects the volatile state of the country. As Boyle's journalistic investigation becomes more dangerous and his personal life unravels, he must decide whether to stay and fight for what he believes in or flee for his own safety.

Salvador received critical acclaim for its unflinching portrayal of the brutal realities of El Salvador's military dictatorship and the role of the United States in supporting it. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards and remains a powerful reminder of the importance of free speech and human rights around the world.
