The young woman's name is Katie, and she is played by Julianne Hough. She arrives in Southport looking for a fresh start and a place to hide from a traumatic event in her past. She is hesitant to open up to anyone but eventually forms a connection with a local widower named Alex (Josh Duhamel) and his two young children.
As their relationship deepens, Katie is haunted by the memories of her past, particularly a police detective named Tierney who is searching for her. She discovers that Alex's wife died in a tragic accident and he is struggling to move on.
Meanwhile, Katie befriends her neighbor Jo (Cobie Smulders), who becomes a confidant and helps her overcome her fears. But when Tierney arrives in town, Katie's secrets are threatened to be exposed and she must decide whether to run or face her past.
Safe Haven is a romantic drama film based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks. It was directed by Lasse Hallström and released in 2013.
