Rustlers' Rhapsody is a 1985 western comedy film directed by Hugh Wilson. The film is a spoof of low-budget western movies that were popular in the mid-20th century. The plot follows Rex O'Herlehan (played by Tom Berenger), a singing cowboy who is accidentally transported from a black and white movie to a color movie set.
Upon arriving, Rex finds himself in a western town controlled by the evil cattle baron, Colonel Ticonderoga (played by Andy Griffith), who is in cahoots with a group of Italian cowboys. These Italian cowboys wear raincoats no matter how hot it gets, as a nod to the spaghetti western genre.
Rex befriends a group of sheep ranchers who are being threatened by Colonel Ticonderoga. These sheep ranchers, led by the tough and independent Peter (played by G.W. Bailey), are constantly belittled by the other cowboys in town.
As the plot unfolds, Rex uses his wits and his singing talent to defeat Colonel Ticonderoga and his cronies and save the sheep ranchers. Along the way, he falls in love with the beautiful and kind-hearted Miss Tracy (played by Marilu Henner).
Rustlers' Rhapsody is filled with self-aware humor and references to classic western movies. The film pokes fun at many of the cliches of the genre, including gunfights, saloon brawls, and daring rescues. The movie was not a commercial success at the time of its release but has since gained a cult following among fans of western movies and comedy.
