In Runner Runner, the poor college student is named Richie Furst (played by Justin Timberlake), who is studying finance and paying his tuition through online gambling. When he loses all his money to an online poker game, he suspects that he has been cheated and travels to Costa Rica to confront the owner of the website, Ivan Block (played by Ben Affleck).
Block is a charismatic and wealthy entrepreneur who runs a massive online gambling operation. He offers Richie a job and quickly shows him the luxurious lifestyle he could have if he joins Ivan's team. Richie is seduced by the money, women, and power and is soon living the high life.
But as he gets deeper into Ivan's empire, Richie realizes the true nature of his boss' business and the criminal activity that funds it. He becomes embroiled in Ivan's shady dealings and is forced to make impossible choices that could jeopardize his life and future.
Along the way, Richie also develops a complicated relationship with Ivan's beautiful and mysterious girlfriend, Rebecca (played by Gemma Arterton), who is also caught up in Ivan's schemes.
The film is a fast-paced thriller that explores the dark side of the online gambling industry and the lengths people will go to for money and power. It features strong performances from Timberlake and Affleck and is directed by Brad Furman, known for his work on the crime drama The Lincoln Lawyer.
