The hardened convict is named Jon Voight, who portrays an intense and brutal criminal named Oscar "Manny" Manheim. The younger prisoner is Buck McGeehy, played by Eric Roberts. The two make a daring escape from the prison in blizzard conditions and hop on an unmanned train, unwittingly enlisting the help of a young railway worker named Sara (Rebecca De Mornay).
As the train barrels through the snowy wilderness, the trio must work together to avoid collisions and keep the train from barreling out of control. Along the way, they encounter various challenges, including a damaged track, a dangerous bridge, and a violent confrontation with the train's conductor.
Meanwhile, the head of security at the prison, Ranken (played by John P. Ryan), is determined to bring the escaped prisoners back to captivity and stop the runaway train before it causes too much damage. Ranken will stop at nothing to achieve his goal, even if it means putting innocent lives at risk.
Runaway Train is a thrilling action thriller with intense performances from its lead actors, incredible train stunts, and a heart-wrenching finale. It was directed by Andrei Konchalovsky and released in 1985.
