The movie Run Silent, Run Deep was released in 1958 and stars Clark Gable as the captain of a submarine named the USS Nerka. As the synopsis suggests, the captain, Commander Richardson, is obsessed with taking revenge on a Japanese destroyer that sunk his previous submarine, the USS Corsair.
Richardson's single-minded focus on his personal vendetta puts his crew, led by Lieutenant Jim Bledsoe (played by Burt Lancaster), in danger. The crew becomes increasingly frustrated with Richardson's reckless behavior and lack of concern for their lives.
Meanwhile, tensions mount between Richardson and Bledsoe, as the latter feels that the captain's vendetta is jeopardizing their mission. Eventually, Bledsoe takes matters into his own hands and attempts to carry out the mission without Richardson's approval.
The movie features intense underwater battle scenes, as well as the psychological toll that war takes on the crew. It was well-received by audiences and critics alike upon its release.
