Elvis Presley plays the role of Charlie Rogers, a talented musician whose reckless behavior and love for adventure have earned him the reputation of a "roustabout" or troublemaker. After getting into a motorcycle accident, Charlie is forced to take a job at a carnival owned by Maggie Morgan, portrayed by the legendary Barbara Stanwyck.
At the carnival, Charlie is assigned to work as a handyman, but his skills as a singer and guitar player quickly catch the attention of Maggie and the other performers. Despite the initial resistance of some of the other carnival workers, Charlie soon becomes a popular and integral part of the show.
As Charlie's star rises, he begins a romance with Cathy Lean, played by Joan Freeman, a pretty young artist who also performs at the carnival. However, their budding romance is complicated by the jealous behavior of Gail, portrayed by Sue Ane Langdon, another performer who has her sights set on Charlie.
As the carnival travels from town to town, Charlie faces a number of challenges, including confrontations with rival performers and the disapproval of Maggie's estranged son, played by Leif Erickson. However, with his talent and charisma, Charlie manages to win over both the audiences and his fellow performers, ultimately proving himself to be a true "roustabout" with a heart of gold.
Featuring a number of classic Elvis songs, including "Roustabout," "Little Egypt," and "Hard Knocks," this film is a must-see for fans of The King and lovers of classic Hollywood cinema alike.
