Rosaline is a modern retelling of William Shakespeare's classic story of "Romeo and Juliet." The film takes place in 16th century Verona, Italy where Romeo Montague (portrayed by Kyle Allen) is smitten with the beautiful Rosaline (portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever). However, Rosaline is less than interested in Romeo as she has been hurt by him in the past and is not looking for any romantic entanglements.
Things take a turn when Romeo's cousin, the lovely and sweet Juliet Capulet (portrayed by Isabela Merced), enters the picture. Romeo falls head over heels for Juliet, much to Rosaline's dismay. In her efforts to end their romance, Rosaline decides to team up with Juliet's cousin Benvolio (portrayed by Sean Teale) to create a plan to make Romeo and Juliet's love affair impossible.
Rosaline and Benvolio create fake love letters from Juliet to another suitor, Paris, to mislead Romeo. They also set up traps and schemes to keep Romeo and Juliet apart. But as the plan unfolds, Rosaline realizes that she still harbors feelings for Romeo. In the midst of the chaos, she must decide whether to continue with her plot to break up Romeo and Juliet, or to confess her feelings and try to win him back.
