Romeo Must Die is a 2000 action film directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak and starring Jet Li and Aaliyah. The movie is set in Oakland, California, where two influential criminal families, the African-American Carter family and the Chinese Han family are fighting for control of the Oakland docks.
The story follows the son of the Han family, Han Sing (Jet Li), who is released from a Hong Kong prison after serving time for murder. He arrives in Oakland to investigate the death of his brother, who was killed during a deal involving the two families. Along the way, he meets Trish O'Day (Aaliyah), the daughter of a high-ranking African-American police officer who is trying to maintain peace between the two families.
As Han searches for the truth behind his brother's death, he runs afoul of both the Carters and the Hans, who are suspicious of his motives. However, he and Trish begin to work together and uncover a web of lies and corruption that has ensnared both families. Along the way, Han and Trish develop a romantic relationship.
As the violence between the two families escalates, Han and Trish combine their skills to take down the corrupt mastermind behind the feud and bring peace to Oakland. The film features several intense fight scenes and spectacular stunts by Jet Li, as well as a memorable performance by Aaliyah in her first major film role before her tragic death in 2001.
