Rob Roy is a 1995 historical drama film directed by Michael Caton-Jones, starring Liam Neeson as the titular character. The movie is based on the real-life Scottish folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor, who lived during the early 18th century.

In the movie, Rob Roy is a cattle drover who lives with his wife Mary (Jessica Lange) and two sons in the Scottish Highlands. He is respected by the people in his town and tries to lead them to a better future by borrowing money from the Marquis of Montrose (John Hurt) to buy cattle to herd to market. However, Roy's life takes a turn for the worse when the money is stolen by his own trusted friend and manager, Donald (Eric Stoltz).

Desperate for the money to repay Montrose, Roy turns to an English nobleman named Cunningham (Tim Roth) who lends him the money on the condition that he collect it within a month. However, Cunningham double-crosses Roy and frames him for a crime he did not commit, causing Roy to go on the run with a price on his head.

Roy becomes a fugitive and is forced to defend his family and his honour by taking matters into his own hands. He joins forces with his former enemy, the Marquis of Montrose, to seek revenge against Cunningham and clear his name.

The movie is a classic tale of one man's struggle against injustice and corruption. It has been praised for its stunning visuals that capture the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands, and for its intense performances from the likes of Liam Neeson, Jessica Lange, and Tim Roth. Rob Roy was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (Tim Roth) and won the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor (Tim Roth) and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song ("Auld Lang Syne" by Dougie MacLean).
