Roar is a 1981 adventure-thriller film directed by Noel Marshall, who also stars in the film alongside his real-life wife, Tippi Hedren, and their real-life children, Melanie Griffith and John Marshall. The film tells the story of a family living on a ranch in Africa where they take care of wild animals, including lions, tigers, and elephants. Despite their love for the animals, the family's life is turned upside down when a massive storm hits, forcing them to leave their ranch and leave the animals behind. When they return, they find their home has been taken over by the animals they once cared for. The family is attacked by the animals, including a pride of lions, a herd of elephants, and a pack of hyenas, all of whom are played by real animals. The film has become notorious for the dangerous and near-fatal incidents that occurred on set due to the use of live animals. It took over ten years to make, and the production became infamous for the numerous injuries and near-death experiences suffered by the cast and crew. Despite these challenges, Roar has developed a cult following over the years and is now regarded as a one of a kind eccentric masterpiece.
