The two song-and-dance men in the movie are Bing Crosby and Bob Hope, who play themselves. They are both trying to avoid marriage proposals from women in Melbourne, and end up stowing away on a boat headed for Bali. During the voyage, they are discovered and forced to work as divers.
Once they arrive on the island, they meet Princess Lala, played by Dorothy Lamour, and both men try to win her affections. They also meet a local businessman named Mr. Ramayana, who is interested in obtaining a valuable chest of jewels that was lost in a shipwreck.
The chest of jewels is discovered during a dangerous dive, and the race is on to retrieve them before Mr. Ramayana can get his hands on them. Along the way, Crosby and Hope get into all sorts of comedic misadventures, including a hilarious scene where they impersonate Abbott and Costello.
Road to Bali is known for its mix of music, comedy, and adventure, as well as the chemistry between Crosby, Hope, and Lamour, who starred in several films together. It was the sixth Road movie in the series, and is considered one of the most beloved entries.
