River Runs Red is a 2018 American thriller movie directed by Wes Miller and starring Taye Diggs, John Cusack, George Lopez, and Luke Hemsworth among others. The story revolves around a respected and well-known judge (played by John Cusack) whose son is killed by two police officers in a supposed act of self-defense. When the two police officers are acquitted, the judge, together with a hardened veteran detective (Taye Diggs), discovers that the cops have a history of abusing their power and killing unarmed civilians. In order to make sure justice is served, they team up with another mourning father (George Lopez) whose son was also killed by the same police officers.
As the trio takes the law into their own hands, they uncover a bigger conspiracy that involves the city's government officials and top police brass. Along the way, they also face some moral and legal challenges that may jeopardize their mission of bringing justice to the victims' families.
The movie explores themes of police brutality, corruption, and the desire for vengeance in the face of injustice. It received mixed reviews from critics but was praised for its timely message and powerful performances by the ensemble cast.
