The two Army officers are Captain Haven (played by Stuart Whitman) and Sergeant Franklyn (played by Jim Brown). Haven is a stoic leader who is tormented by a traumatic event from his past, while Franklyn is a tough, no-nonsense soldier who is motivated by a desire to avenge his slain wife and child.
The ex-Confederate soldier is Lassiter (played by Richard Boone), a bitter and cynical man who drowns his sorrows in alcohol and regrets his role in the war. Despite his flaws, Lassiter is an expert tracker and a valuable member of the team.
The womanizing Mexican is Rodriguez (played by Tony Franciosa), a smooth-talking smuggler who is recruited by Haven and Franklyn to provide them with transportation into Mexico. Rodriguez is initially hesitant to get involved, but he is won over by the promise of a large sum of money.
The megalomaniacal ex-Confederate colonel is Colonel Pardee (played by Edmund O'Brien), a deranged and power-hungry man who is determined to sell the stolen rifles to the Apaches in order to start a war between Mexico and the United States. Haven and his team must navigate treacherous terrain and deal with hostile locals in order to track down Pardee and prevent him from carrying out his deadly plan.
Throughout the course of their mission, the four men must confront their own personal demons and work together to overcome obstacles and enemies. Rio Conchos is a tense and action-packed Western that explores themes of loyalty, redemption, and the consequences of war.
