Revolt at Fort Laramie is a 1957 Western film directed by Lesley Selander and starring John Dehner, Gregg Palmer, and Frances Helm. The film is set in 1861, just before the outbreak of the American Civil War, and follows the divided loyalties of the garrison stationed at Fort Laramie, Wyoming.
The commanding officer of the fort, Major Seth Bradner (Dehner), is an ardent Union supporter who is determined to uphold the authority of the United States government. However, many of his men are sympathetic to the Confederate cause, and tensions begin to mount when news of the outbreak of hostilities reaches the fort.
As the situation deteriorates, Bradner finds himself caught between his duty to his country and his loyalty to his men. Matters come to a head when a group of Sioux Indians, led by the warlike Chief Red Cloud, attacks the fort in an attempt to drive out the white settlers.
With their lives on the line, the Union and Confederate soldiers set aside their differences and band together to repel the Indian attackers. In the process, they learn to respect each other as fellow soldiers and Americans, and Bradner gains a new understanding of the importance of unity in the face of danger.
Overall, Revolt at Fort Laramie is a well-crafted Western with strong performances and a thoughtful message about the importance of national unity in times of crisis. While it may not be as well-known as some other films of the genre, it is definitely worth a watch for fans of classic Westerns and historical dramas.
