Alex is in love with a Ukrainian prostitute named Tamara and plans to flee to the South with her after robbing a bank owned by a wealthy man.

However, during the robbery, something terrible happens and Alex's plan goes awry. As a result, Alex and Tamara are forced to stay in Vienna, and Alex becomes consumed with thoughts of revenge against the man he believes is responsible for the tragedy.

Meanwhile, the wealthy man's wife, Susanne, is struggling to come to terms with her husband's infidelities and tries to find solace in a new friendship with Alex. As the story unfolds, the characters' lives become increasingly intertwined and their actions have potentially fatal consequences.
