The movie begins with two military officers transporting barrels of experimentally developed Trioxin gas, which reanimates the dead, to a storage facility. They accidentally collide with another vehicle, causing one of the barrels to fall out and roll down the hill and land in a local cemetery.

A group of kids, including Jesse (Michael Kenworthy) and Lucy (Marsha Dietlein), stumble across the barrel and accidentally open it, releasing the gas into the air, which reanimates the corpse inside.

The group of kids, along with two bumbling grave robbers, Ed (James Karen) and Joey (Thom Mathews), try to fend off the growing horde of zombies while seeking refuge in a nearby house.

As the zombies continue to multiply, the group tries to find a way to stop them. They eventually discover that the only way to kill the zombies is to destroy their brains completely.

In the end, the military arrives and attempts to contain the situation. However, despite their efforts, the zombies manage to escape and wreak havoc on the town.
