The movie follows the character of Colonel Reynolds, who is leading a group of government scientists in re-animating the dead for military use. Reynolds and his team are successful in creating a serum that can bring the dead back to life, but with some unexpected side effects.
Reynolds' son, Curt, is intrigued by his father's work and decides to sneak into the laboratory with his girlfriend, Julie, using a stolen security pass. While exploring the laboratory, they accidentally release a re-animated corpse, which attacks and kills Julie.
Devastated by the loss of his girlfriend, Curt decides to use the serum to bring her back to life, despite its potential danger. The serum works, but it also causes Julie to develop a thirst for human brains. As the two attempt to find a way to suppress her hunger for flesh, they are hunted by both the military and other re-animated corpses.
Throughout the movie, Curt struggles with the consequences of his actions and faces a tough decision between his love for Julie and the safety of others. The film features plenty of gore, horror, and action as the characters fight for their survival in a world overrun by the living dead.
