Racial Strife: Unrest in Rockville

Drama,TV Movie  United States of America

Major Kendall Laird is a professional in his field and is assigned to deliver the body of Lieutenant Dwyte Johnson, a Vietnam war hero, to his hometown of Rockville, Georgia. While he is there, Laird faces prejudice and racism from the white residents who do not want a black soldier to be buried in their cemetery. Laird attempts to convince the locals to allow Johnson to be buried in the cemetery, but his efforts are met with resistance and hostility.

Laird discovers that Johnson was a victim of racial hatred in Vietnam, where he was treated poorly by his white counterparts. Johnson was an extremely gifted soldier, and his death is a loss for the military and his family.

Laird meets Johnson's parents, who are heartbroken over the loss of their son. They are devastated to learn that their son's body cannot be buried in the local cemetery. Laird also meets Johnson's sister, who is active in the local Civil Rights Movement.

Throughout the movie, we witness the tension between the local residents and Laird over the burial of Johnson. As Laird attempts to find a solution, he begins to understand why so many people are passionately involved in the civil rights movement and why it is so important.

Resting Place is a touching story that highlights issues of racial prejudice and discrimination. It is incredibly relevant even today and reminds us of how far we have come as a society, but how far we still have to go.
