The samurai, named Kuroda Jubie (played by Toshiro Mifune), teams up with a bandit named Link Stuart (played by Charles Bronson) to track down the gang responsible for stealing the sword. Initially, the two men distrust each other, but gradually form a bond as they face various obstacles on their journey, including dangerous terrain and hostile Native Americans.
As they get closer to the gang, they discover that the sword is being held by a ruthless outlaw named Gauche (played by Alain Delon) who plans to sell it to the highest bidder. Kuroda and Link must infiltrate Gauche's stronghold and engage in an intense battle to retrieve the sword and bring Gauche to justice.
Throughout the film, there are flashbacks to Kuroda's past, including his training as a samurai and his role in a tragic incident that led him to become the ambassador's bodyguard. These flashbacks add depth to Kuroda's character and demonstrate his unwavering commitment to his mission.
The film received mixed reviews upon its release in 1971, but has since gained a cult following for its unconventional blend of Western and samurai film genres, as well as its impressive cast of international stars.
