In Red Heat, Ivan Danko (played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a no-nonsense Moscow police officer who is sent to Chicago to bring back Viktor Rostavili (played by Ed O’Ross), a vicious Georgian drug lord who murdered his partner. However, things don't go as planned as Viktor manages to flee from Ivan, leading to a chase throughout the city.
In Chicago, Ivan is partnered with Detective Art Ridzik (played by James Belushi), a wisecracking cop who doesn't take his job too seriously and who has a penchant for breaking the rules. Art initially resents working with the straight-laced Ivan and the two have a rocky start to their partnership. However, as they hunt for Viktor, they begin to develop a mutual respect for each other and the two become unlikely friends.
Along the way, the duo encounters various obstacles and challenges, including corrupt police officers, a street gang, and a car chase through a shopping mall. But their biggest challenge comes when they finally track down Viktor, who has joined forces with a rival drug kingpin and is now even more dangerous than before.
The action-packed climax sees Ivan and Art team up to take down Viktor and his associates, with plenty of gunfire, explosions, and hand-to-hand combat. In the end, Ivan is able to bring Viktor back to Moscow to stand trial, and he and Art say their goodbyes before Ivan returns home.
