Red Corner Movie Summary

Innocence Lost: A Legal Battle

Crime,Drama,Thriller  United States of America

The attorney, Jack Moore (played by Richard Gere), travels to China on business and finds himself accused of the murder of a young woman he had spent the night with. He is arrested and put on trial, facing the death penalty if found guilty.

Moore is initially advised to plead guilty by his American lawyers in order to receive a lighter sentence, but he refuses and seeks the help of a Chinese defense attorney named Shen Yuelin (played by Bai Ling). Yuelin is initially hesitant to take on the case due to the political implications, but ultimately agrees to represent him.

As Yuelin delves deeper into the case, she discovers evidence that suggests Moore is being framed for the murder as part of a larger conspiracy involving high-ranking officials. However, her efforts to prove his innocence put her own life in danger as she becomes a target for those behind the plot.

Meanwhile, Moore is subjected to harsh treatment and interrogation in prison, and he begins to lose hope as the evidence against him seems overwhelming. Ultimately, it is Yuelin's determination and ingenuity that leads to a breakthrough in the case and a stunning revelation in court.

Red Corner explores themes of justice, cultural differences, and the challenges of navigating the legal system in a foreign country. It received mixed reviews upon its release in 1997, but Gere's performance and the film's dramatic tension were praised by some critics.
