[REC] is a Spanish horror film released in 2007, directed by Jaume Balaguerรณ and Paco Plaza. The movie was filmed in a found footage style following a television reporter named Angela Vidal (played by Manuela Velasco) and her cameraman Pablo (played by Pablo Rosso) as they cover an overnight shift with the fire department.
The movie starts with Angela and Pablo interviewing the fire department about their job and following them on a routine call to an apartment building. As they arrive, they discover that a woman in one of the apartments is suffering from a strange illness that causes her to act violently.
Eventually, the building is locked down with the fire department, residents, Angela and Pablo still inside. They discover that the cause of the illness is some type of virus that quickly spreads throughout the building, turning residents into aggressive and violent creatures. The survivors must figure out how to escape the building while also avoiding the infected and the military outside.
As the situation worsens, Angela and Pablo become separated, leading Angela to confront the source of the virus and the true nature of what is happening in the building.
The movie is known for its intense jump scares and claustrophobic setting. It was well received by critics and was remade in America as Quarantine in 2008. [REC] spawned three sequels: [REC] 2 (2009), [REC] 3: Genesis (2012), and [REC] 4: Apocalypse (2014).
