Rebuilding is a heartfelt yet comedic movie that follows the journey of three rural elders on their quest for justice and the preservation of a friend's dream. The movie kicks off with Chaoying's ambitious plan to renovate his old house. He sells all his cattle to fund the reconstruction project, and with the help of his friends Shuhe and Zhanyi, they start building.

The village convention dictates that Chaoying will have to pay for the victim's medical expenses because the perpetrator can't be identified. Faced with this grave injustice, Chaoying and Zhanyi decide to take matters into their own hands and set out on a chase to find the hit-and-run driver.
The duo embarks on an absurd journey across the vast and flat North China Plain, riding three-wheeled electric motors. The pair encounters numerous obstacles, from bad weather and poor direction to run-ins with local authorities and wild animals, all of which threaten to derail their mission.
Despite the challenges they face, Chaoying and Zhanyi persist, fueled by their desire for justice and the preservation of Chaoying's dream of rebuilding his home. The movie is a heartwarming tale of friendship, perseverance, and the resilience of the human spirit, as the three rural elders remind us that even in the face of overwhelming odds, anything is possible.
